As previously reported, Atlus had revealed plans to bring Persona 3 to the PSP. Now we have more details on Persona 3 Portable, which is more than a direct port of the original game.

As we mentioned, Persona 3 Portable has a female protagonist. It turns out that when the game starts, players can choose between her and Persona 3's original male lead to be their protagonist. Events and dialogue will of course be different for the female's story, but there will be changes and added events to the male character's story as well. If players choose the female lead, the Velvet Room assistant Elizabeth will be replaced by a male counterpart.

Atlus also plans to include the ability to control all of your party members in battle directly, such as in Persona 4. Persona 3 Portable will also have two new difficulties - Beginners and Maniacs - for a total count of five settings.

Last but not least, Persona 3 Portable will only include the original game, and not The Answer portion of Persona 3: FES.

UPDATE 8/20

Some new scans and video footage reveal a bit more about Persona 3 Portable. Most notably, the game features some new music, including a town theme and battle theme. The female protagonist's story also seems to have a Social Link with one of your male teammates, Ken, so S-links with your other male party members may be a safe bet as well. Atlus has also cut out free exploration in Persona 3's world, except of course in Tartarus and the dungeons. Instead, outside of the dungeons players will use a menu to switch locations (such as in Persona 4) and also to talk to people.

Among the visual changes are pink menus for the female's story, some new battle costumes, the inclusion of pre-rendered backgrounds in some areas, and the lack of character models in event scenes - instead, players will just see the character portraits.

Persona 3 Portable will be available in Japan both via retail and digitally on November 1st.
