New + Mother Soundtrack Reviews
11.24.08 - 5:04 PM

We have eight soundtrack reviews today. Let's start with the new stuff.

First off, Josh Lewis follows up his review of the game Fable II with the OST review. Featuring another title theme from Danny Elfman, and the rest by returning composer Russell Shaw, the soundtrack does much of what most Western VGM has done this decade: sound like a film score.

Then, we have an OST and Arrange Album double-hitter with the new DS game Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. And of course, it's all Motoi Sakuraba.

A rarity that came down the line, we got together a review for the CD/book publication "Final Fantasy Official Best Collection: Guitar Solo"...yes, that's right. After all those piano collections, finally a guitar solo arrangement. Be sure to check this out.

Another new release we've reviewed is the soundtrack for X Edge (also written Cross Edge). The score is by Idea Factory's primary composer, Kenji Kaneko, with a vocal theme written by Daisuke Achiwa from Gust's Sound Team.

Along with these new releases, we have three older albums from the Mother (Earthbound) series, all from editor Kyle Miller. We got an OST, a midi Piano album, and a full arranged album from various entries in the three-part series. Note that the reviewed album entitled "Mother 3+" is available on iTunes alongside the hard-copy CD release we've reviewed. iTunes also hosts a digital-only OST release called "Mother 3i."

Stop by next week for an "obscurity" update. You'll be sure to enjoy soundtracks for RPGs you've never heard of! ...maybe...
