Cryptic Beams Up Star Trek Online
07.28.08 - 3:09 PM

Cryptic Entertainment, the minds behind City of Heroes and RPGFan's Best MMORPG of E3 2008, Champions Online has announced that they have acquired the license for Star Trek Online, formerly in the hands of Perpetual Entertainment, now-defunct developer of Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising.

While there are few details available at this time, Cryptic will be showing off their first gameplay video next month at the annual Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas, NV. Players will be able to take control of either a Federation or Klingon captain and mold their crew into their own personal elite force of pain. According to the official website, the title will take place in the 25th century, well outside of the events portrayed in any of the television series.

Cryptic Entertainment is developing Star Trek Online for "both console and PC formats," although what console(s) it will see release on has yet to be confirmed. Cryptic has yet to announce when MMORPG fans will get to boldly go where no MMORPG has gone before.
