New PS3 RPG Announced: X Edge
05.07.08 - 4:03 AM

Compile Heart today Announced X Edge (Cross Edge). The PlayStation 3-based RPG will feature popular characters taken from various IPs of the following five Japanese companies: Idea Factory, Gust, Capcom, Nippon Ichi Software and Bandai Namco Games. So far the following characters have been confirmed to appear in the game:

Mue (Spectral Souls)
Marie (Atelier Marie)
Roze (Mana Khemia 2)
Liliane (Mana Khemia 2)
Morrigan (Darkstalkers)
Felicia (Darkstalkers)
Demitri (Darkstalkers)
Etna (Disgaea)
Prinny (Disgaea)
Aurica (Ar tonelico)
Misha (Ar tonelico)
Shurelia (Ar tonelico)

At the heart of X Edge's game play are souls collected from various worlds. The game's goal is to set these souls free.

X Edge will employ a turn-based battle system that supports up to four active party members. For every character, the player can assign skills to the DualShock 3's triangle, square, cross and circle buttons. Connecting multiple skills will trigger powerful combination attacks. These combination attacks are also convenient, because they reduce an enemy's defense stat to zero.

By releasing souls the player will be able obtain a special equipment known as "form." These forms do not only boost a character's abilities, but they also let the player change the outfits of female party members. The game's development is currently 70% complete.

X Edge will be available in Japan in September.
