1000 Soundtracks Reviewed
04.18.08 - 10:55 PM

We've made quite an accomplishment with the RPGFan Soundtracks section, and we're not going to hide it.

Recently, the "VGM Database" announced they had over 7000 soundtracks listed in their database, and had surpassed the Japanese-language "JGML" page in number of listings.

And over at Chudah's Corner (run by an old friend of ours), they have over 2500 albums listed.

So what makes our achievement so special in comparison?

Two things come to mind.

First, RPGFan only covers soundtracks for RPGs. This puts a pretty severe limitation on what we can and cannot post. The fact that we've reviewed 1000 soundtracks for just RPGs is pretty impressive.

The second, of course, is that we actually are doing reviews. The other sites, wonderful as they are, ask only the minimum of a cover image, an English tracklist, and the basic information. On top of that, RPGFan always provides a review and audio samples. It is safe to say that we are the largest site to do these things, and we're proud of it.

We were previously at 996 reviews, but today, it comes to 1000. Here are the new additions:

Monster Hunter Hunting Music Collection -- a whole bunch of music from the MH series on two discs.
Zill O'll -infinite- OST & Drama -- The only known album for this game (which is a remake of a PS1 title that never got an OST). It's a KOEI game. Check it out.
12Riven -the Ψcliminal of integral- OST -- a great two disc set that comes only with the import PS2 title.
12Riven -the Ψcliminal of integral- Arrange BGM -- more promotional goodness, but on one short disc.

The first two were reviewed by me, the second half are from Neal Chandran.

So, how to pick...which is review #1000?! Common sense might suggest going alphabetically and taking Zill O'll. But, for those of you who know your history, you may remember that when we celebrated 500 soundtracks, that update came from Neal Chandran as well (a Persona 2 arranged album, if I recall correctly).

So let's hand it to Neal, and declare the 12Riven Arrange BGM disc as soundtrack #1000 to be reviewed. Congratulations, Neal, and congratulations to all of us!

If you'd like to help us reach 2000 soundtrack reviews, feel free to submit reader reviews; we're always accepting!
