At a press conference in Tokyo today, Square Enix announced several new titles. Among them was the original RPG The Last Remnant, which was first announced earlier this week. As previously expected, the game will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Square Enix plans to release the game simultaneously in Japan and the US. Enemies will be depicted as symbols on the field map, thus eliminating pesky random encounters. While the battle system will be command-based, timing will play a key role. Furthermore, group battles with up to 70 participants are promised.
An international version of Final Fantasy XII is planned for an August release in Japan. Titled Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System, this PlayStation 2 title will be based on the US version of Final Fantasy XII. It will offer wide screen support and the license board system will receive a major update. Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System will be available in Japan on August 9th.
In addition to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearer, Square Enix revealed a previously unannounced Wii title: Chocobo no Fushigi na Dungeon (Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon): Toki Wasure no Meikyuu.
The company also had big news in store for all fans of its Star Ocean series. While Star Ocean 4 has been confirmed to be in development at tri-Ace, no information regarding the game's target platform were revealed today. In further Star Ocean-related news, remakes of the series' first two installments are set to appear on PlayStation Portable. Star Ocean 1 First Departure and Star Ocean 2 Second Evolution will feature new character designs and CG sequences created by famous anime studio Production I.G.
Last but not least, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates for DS will hit Japanese retail store shelves on August 23rd. Furthermore, the team which had previously worked on the popular DS-remake of Final Fantasy III, is now working on a remake of Final Fantasy IV. In addition to 3D visuals, the DS version of the Super Famicom classic will feature new episodes, a deeper story, and updated character designs.
