Koei Announces Original Wii RPG
03.14.07 - 8:46 AM

At a press conference in Tokyo today, Koei announced an original Wii-based RPG titled Opoona. The game's development is handled by Arte Piazza, the development studio behind the PlayStation 2 remake of Dragon Quest V and Marvelous Interactive's PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2 game Shin Bokujou Monogatari: Innocent Life (Harvest Moon). In development since spring 2005, Opoona is produced by Arte Piazza president Shintarou Majima. Hitoshi Sakimoto is composing the soundtrack.

Opoona also happens to be the name of the game's protagonist. He yields from a planet known as Titia. The game's story sees Opoona trying to make his living on an unknown planet named Landroll. His enemies are Dark Rogues, evil creatures that lurk on Landroll.

In battle an orb (known as Energy Bonbon) is floating above Opoona's head. This orb can be utilized as a projectile capable of knocking out enemies. Players will also be able to get rid of pesky opposition with a special attacks known as Force. This Force is apparently taking the place of magic in Opoona.

Opoona will be available in Japan sometime this summer.
