Square Enix and Buena Vista Games have announced that they have shipped more than ten million units worldwide, making it one of the top selling role-playing series ever. More than 5.4 million of these units have been shipped in North America alone.

"When we first started developing Kingdom Hearts, we never imagined we would pass the 10 million mark so quickly," said series producer Shinji Hashimoto. "We are delighted and extremely grateful for the support from our fans around the globe. We hope to continue to provide games which fulfill your anticipation in the future."

The original Kingdom Hearts takes the bulk of the units shipped, with more than 5.6 million units worldwide, while its direct sequel, Kingdom Hearts II, has shipped more than 3.5 million copies since its release this past year. The Game Boy Advance cousin to the series, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories brings up the rear, with a still-impressive 1.5 million copies shipped.

Outside of the Kingdom Hearts series, Square Enix will see the portable iteration of fan favorite Final Fantasy VI ship for the Game Boy Advance this week.
