Square Enix announced today its results for the third quarter and upgraded its full year forecast for the current fiscal year 2006/2007. During the past three quarters (April to December period), the makers of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest posted a consolidated net profit of 9.10 billion yen ($74.72 million USD) on sales of 123.04 billion yen ($1.01 billion USD). For reference, the company's revenue for the entire fiscal year 2005/2006 stood only at 124.47 billion yen ($1.02 billion USD).

During the April 1st through December 31st period, Square Enix sold 13.11 million copies of software worldwide (5.64 million in Japan, 5.52 million in the US, 1.89 million in Europe, and 60,000 in the Asia Pacific region). Key releases included: Final Fantasy XII (1.66 million copies sold in the North America), Kingdom Hearts II (690,000 copies sold in Europe), Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII (450,000 copies sold in the US, 250,000 in Europe), Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (450,000 copies sold in Europe), Final Fantasy III (950,000 copies sold in Japan, 340,000 copies sold in North America) and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker (910,000 copies sold in Japan).

For the full fiscal year ending on March 31st, Square Enix now projects a net profit of 11 billion yen ($90.33 million USD) on sales of 160 billion yen ($1.31 billion USD). With the exception of the struggling arcade business, the company's business divisions all posted healthy sales, leading to today's upgraded projections.
