Wizardry Soundtracks Update
12.09.06 - 10:25 PM

The Wizardry series began in 1981 as a game on the Apple II computer, developed and published entirely in the US. The series evolved from a simple (and silly) text-based RPG into an international phenomenon. When the series reached Japan, the game took on a whole different feel, complete with new graphics and sound, and Japan-only incarnations for the series now exist where once it was a US-only game.

This all begs one very relevant question: why doesn't RPGFan's soundtracks section have any reviews for the series?

I've avoided that question until now, and my answer is simple: it does.

We have four albums for you today, though they are of a different nature than what you may have expected. Many of the earlier games (and their console-based reprints) had soundtracks made by Kentaro Haneda, an expert at composition. However, these soundtracks are for Game Boy "Gaiden" incarnations of the series, and they have music from Ikuro Fujiwara. Confused? That's alright.

The three Game Boy soundtracks we have are for Wizardry Gaiden I ~ Suffering of the Queen, Wizardry Gaiden II ~ Curse of the Ancient Emperor, and Wizardry Gaiden III ~ Scripture of the Dark. We're topping it off with an obscure drama CD: "Quest For Hrathnir."

That's it for now. If you have more than a passing interest in music from the Wizardry series, be sure to include your opinions in a reader review sent to our soundtracks submissions e-mail account.
