Dallas, Texas-based Soldak Entertainment has announced Depths of Peril, a PC-based action RPG with strong strategy elements. In this fantasy title, players take the role of a faction leader protecing the city of Jorvik from monsters and other threats. Since Jorvik is a barbarian city, its leader is chosen by his and his faction's strength. Hence, the player must interact with rival factions through the means of diplomacy, trade, and if the situation requires, brute force. To build a powerful faction, players will have to explore Depths of Peril's world, defeat the many monsters lurking in it, solve quests for the city, avoid lethal traps, and plunder loot to share with the members of one's faction. This is easier said than done, though, since in Depths of Peril's world all your actions will have certain consequences. Enraging the aggressive rival faction known as Legion of Fear, for instance, is not a good idea, as this will result in them declaring war on your faction.

Depths of Peril is currently scheduled for a first quarter 2007 release in the US.
