Genius Sonority has announced that it is developing Dragon Quest Sword: Kamen no Joou to Kagami no Tou (The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors) for Square Enix. The Dragon Quest gaiden, which is scheduled for a spring 2007 release in Japan, will be Square Enix's first Wii title.

Founded four years ago, the studio is headed by Manabu Yamana. Yamana is no stranger to the Dragon Quest series, though. As head of Chunsoft's development division and later at Heartbeat, he has worked on Dragon Quest III through VII as well as the PlayStation remake of Dragon Quest IV. While Yamana is Genius Sonority's largest shareholder, Nintendo and its subsidiary Pokemon do hold a 39% stake in the company. Prior to Dragon Quest Sword, the company has focused on developing various Pokemon installments for Nintendo.
