Funcom Extends, Adds To Free Anarchy Online 10.27.06 - 5:41 PM Funcom, developers of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and the upcoming Age of Conan: Hyborean Adventures has announced that they will be extending the free-play offer on their MMORPG Anarchy Online until January of 2008. On top of the continued free play, Anarchy Online: Notum Wars, the first expansion to the game, which was previously pay-to-play, will now be included in the offer. Notum Wars introduced PvP combat to Anarchy Online, allowing players to conquer large masses of land, build a base, and defend their territory from other players. "The free offer has been an amazing success and a chance to show massive amounts of players how good this game actually is," said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. "With a new expansion around the corner, an improved free offer, continued development and few good sci-fi MMO games around we believe Anarchy Online can remain successful for years to come. At the same time we gain invaluable large-scale data on innovative business and distribution models, enabling us to shape the future of our other games better informed." Funcom is able to offer Anarchy Online for free due to an in-game advertising system developed by Massive, Inc. Players will see dynamic ads in places such as in-game billboards and the like. Players can find more information about Anarchy Online at its official website.
