Square Enix today released Seiken Densetsu: Friends of Mana in Japan. The first online RPG in the series' long history is available for Softbank (formerly Vodafone Japan) - branded 3G cellphones. The game is based on the setting of the 1999 PlayStation title Seiken Densetsu: Legend of Mana. Controlling a master musician, players can earn Happy Points by aiding NPCs in trouble. By accumulating these Happy Points, they will be able to grow a Mana Tree. Seiken Densetsu: Friends of Mana will also allow users to communicate with each other, trade items, match virtual pets and cooperate with their friends' pets.

In addition to the downloadable version of the game, Seiken Densetsu: Friends of Mana comes pre-installed on the following two cellphone models: SoftBank 810 SH and Softbank 811 SH. Both are available in Japan since yesterday.

Playing Seiken Densetsu: Friends of Mana costs a usage charge of 500 yen ($4.21 USD) per month.
