E3 2006: Maypan 05.11.06 - 4:46 PM One of the less-frequently-talked-about sections of E3 is the Korean booth. Many decent RPGs have hailed from the country, including Ragnarok Online and Magna Carta. This year, if one ventured to the back-left corner of South Hall, you will see a banner that reads "Power of Korea Game." A number of online PC games (including more than a few MMORPGs) were featured: the one that caught our attention was Enium's 3D pet-based MMORPG entitled Maypan. Enium Co., Ltd. started in 1999 and found some success in Korea with a 2D MMORPG entitled Stone Age. The "universe" captured in this title has expanded and moved forward into what is now Maypan. Enium has targeted this fun pet-raising MMORPG toward children. The colorful environments mesh nicely with the cute and interesting animals you can raise. Enium released the following statement regarding the game: This game offers the community feature enabled with the translation system that allows you to chat with multiple users using different languages. The bright visuals and sounds of this game appeal especially to women and children. This MMORPG of casual graphic style is not like other strongly addictive games that emphasize 1 on 1 battle. Maypan emphasizes the battle system with not only a user versus user, but also Mayf versus Mayf (we call this battle system the MVM system). The "Mayf"s (the pets you raise) will learn abilities as you take care of them, and will level differently depending upon how you raise them. Currently available in Korea, Enium hopes to have an English version of the game available by September. Keep an eye out for this one: its charm may just win you over.
