E3 2006: Konami's Portrait of Ruin 05.11.06 - 1:01 PM Announced weeks ago, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is another action-RPG title for Nintendo's DS. Taking place during World War II, an evil painter and his two daughters intend to resurrect Dracula. Two heroes (a male descendant from the Bloodlines series and a female witch) are the only people that stand in the way of these villains. Unlike nearly all other Castlevania titles, which leave the player exploring Dracula's extremely large castle, this game will have players entering giant paintings within the castle which then take them into the world of the painting (much like Mario 64, but a lot darker). The major gameplay feature for the title is that the player will be in control of both characters, using the D-Pad to control the movement of one character and the stylus to control the other. The two will work together to overcome obstacles, solve puzzles, and destroy various undead enemies. While we sat down with Konami to discuss this title, we also asked about the possibility of Ys: The Oath in Felghana coming to the US on PS2. No one was "permitted to comment" on the issue at the moment, but in our minds, no news is good news. Falcom fans, keep your fingers crossed.
