Square Enix today announced that it has shipped a total of 2.5 million copies of Kingdom Hearts II in Japan and North America. Following its December 22nd release in Japan, 1.2 million units of the PlayStation 2 action RPG were shipped in Japan, while 1.3 million copies were shipped in the US where the game was released on March 28th.

Worldwide shipments for the entire Kingdom Hearts series have reached 8.5 million copies. Square Enix is optimistic that the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts II in Europe will help the series break the ten million mark.
