Today's soundtracks update is a "retro review" update, with work from myself, Derek Strange, and Ben Schweitzer. It just so happened that we were all interested in these two series' sounds. Which two? Langrisser and Ogre Battle.

Starting with the first one, I bring you a near-exclusive review of the oldest soundtrack in the series' history, "Langrisser Masaya Omnibus." Including OST and arrange tracks from this title and two other Masaya-published titles, this CD from 1991 is truly the pinnacle of obscurity. Also reviewed is the Langrisser II soundtrack, which contains 20 arranged songs from the classic Genesis (and Super Famicom) title.

Next up, we have that other series...and we have four soundtracks from it! I reviewed "All Sounds of Ogre Battle" as well as an image album entitled "The Entrance." Both of these albums are worthwhile listens, but I promise you you'll never find an album like "The Entrance" anywhere else within the category of VGM. It's definitely...unique.

Derek Strange reviewed the almighty Tactics Ogre soundtrack, which is said to rival Final Fantasy Tactics (both titles have music from Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata). This three disc set is nothing to scoff at.

Ben Schweitzer rounds things out with the three disc OST for Ogre Battle 64. Composed primarily by Hayato Matsuo, this one has a feel all its own, though it borrows plenty of songs from the previous titles in the series.

This "retro" update brings us up to speed on both of these series' musical discographies, so until something new comes out (which may never happen), enjoy checking out the complete sets of albums from these fine games.
