At a press conference in Tokyo today, Tecmo president Junji Nakamura confirmed his company has begun looking into supplying games for Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 3. While Tecmo has supported both the current generation Xbox and now the upcoming Xbox 360, the company has been mum about PlayStation 3 development so far. Previously Tecmo producers had already expressed interest in Sony Computer Entertainment's platform, though.

It however remains to be seen what Tecmo's PlayStation 3 support will eventually look like. The Tokyo-based company's main offerings for PlayStation 2 have been three installments of the popular horror action adventure series Zero (Fatal Frame), Rygar, Kagero II (Trapt) and three Monster Farm (Monster Rancher) games, among them the upcoming Monster Farm 5: Circus Caravan.

As far as development costs are concerned, Nakamura said, developing a game for Xbox 360 costs 20% more than for a hardware of the current generation. The Tecmo president however also sees differences between Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. When compared to the former, today's developers were feeling a malaise when developing games on the latter. Hence, developers were required to change their ways of thinking when approaching the new hardware.
