Imperator Hits The Bench

Imperator, Mythic's MMORPG slated for a June 2006 release has been put on indefinite hiatus. Mythic has announced that no staff will be laid off due to this decision, but will be transferred to work on the new Dark Age of Camelot expansion, Darkness Rising and the upcoming Warhammer MMORPG.

"This was the most difficult decision that we have ever had to make," said Mark Jacobs, CEO and president of Mythic Entertainment. "However, our tremendous success with Dark Age of Camelot set the standard for Mythic of releasing nothing less than triple-A games, and Imperator was simply not meeting that standard."

"Our team made a tremendous effort with the game and the praise it drew at E3 and in previews reflected their skill and dedication," Jacobs continued. "But in the final analysis it just wasn't great enough to be a Mythic game at this time."

Mythic will re-consider Imperator at a later date, but as a result of this announcement, Mythic's planned European publishing office will be postponed until 2007 to prepare for Warhammer's worldwide release. You can check out what Imperator was slated to be in Damian's preview below.
