Ubi Soft has announced the official title of and first details regarding the Lunar title for the Nintendo DS. Lunar: Dragon Song will put players in control of Jian, Lucia and Gabriel who set out to save the world of Lunar. To accomplish this task, the three heroes will have to convert the Forces of Darkness into Beings of Light. As previously announced, Lunar: Dragon Song is a prequel to Lunar: Silver Star, hence fans of the series will get a glimpse at what happened in the world of Lunar before Alex's adventure.

A key aspect of the game's battle system will be so-called battle cards. Using these cards will allow players to strengthen their skills, spells and attacks. The DS' wireless functionality can be utilized to share rare and unique items with friends.

The official website also mentions, that the game would come from the original creators of Lunar: Silver Star. While the original Lunar was developed by GameArts, the development studio's participation in this new project however could not be confirmed. In Japan, the game is published by Marvelous Interactive under the title Lunar Genesis.

Lunar: Dragon Song will be available in the US sometime this July. Lunar Genesis will be released in Japan on August 25th.
