04.21.05 - 2:07 AM

Funcom has announced Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures for the PC platform. The newest title from the Oslo, Norway-based development studio is described as an online action RPG. It will feature offer a mix between story-driven single player elements and multiplayer features.

As the title suggests, the PC-based title is based on the world of the popular babarian Conan. After Conan has finally claimed the throne of Aquilonia, he is faced with the emergence of ancient evil forces. System-wise, Age of Conan will feature a so-called Real Combat engine. This new battle system will allow players to swing their weapons where they direct them in real-time. Furthermore, players will be able to command NPCs and fellow users in combat. Players can also form guilds and jointly lay siege to enemy castles.

Age of Conan is being directed by Funcom co-founder Gaute Godager, who recently worked as game director of the company's highly successful MMORPG Anarchy Online and its most popular expansion Shadowlands. More details about the game will be released during a presentation at next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo E3 in Los Angeles.

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures will be available sometime during the first half of 2006.
