PlayStation Meeting 2004 Report 07.12.04 - 10:34 AM Sony Computer Entertainment held its annual PlayStation Meeting in a hotel in Shinagawa, Tokyo today. While Sony Computer Entertainment president and Sony executive vice president Ken Kutaragi hinted that his company's next generation hardware will be unveiled later this year, the meeting's focus was clearly on the new PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld. Since this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, the number of Japanese companies working on PSP software has increased from 34 to 59. Among the newcomers are Global A Entertainment, Torneko developers Chun Soft, Black/Matrix series and love adventure publisher Interchannel as well as To Heart makers Aquaplus. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan's senior vice president Tomikazu Kirita mentioned that the ten first party offerings for PSP will be playable during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show in September. Below you will find a list of the announced games currently in development for the platform: Shinten Makai (tentative title), Idea Factory, simulation RPG Like every year, the PlayStation Meeting also served as a stage for the PlayStation Awards ceremony. Square Enix, represented by Dragon Quest series mastermind Yuuji Horii himself, took home one platinum award for the PlayStation 2 remake of Dragon Quest V: Tenguu no Hanayome, which has sold 1.6 million copies in Japan since its March 25th release.
