Overdue Soundtracks Update
05.17.04 - 2:14 AM

I know, it's been awhile...but fear not, this is a good update, and there is more good news at the bottom!

Drag-on Dragoon (known to the stateside kids as Drakengard) has a most unorthodox soundtrack: orchestra music, sampled and looped: pulsating, driving, wild, and many times disliked. Faithful reader-reviewer Dragon God has given us reviews of *both volumes* of the OST. This is a rare and wild form of beauty to some, and others just can't stand it. Super Sweep, Inc. to the rescue!

RPGFan's Editor-in-Chief, Eric Farand (a.k.a. "Rudo"), has done us all a great favor by reviewing two RPG soundtracks: one old and obscure, the other new and generally available. For a retro perspective, Rudo gives us a review of the original soundtrack for Sega CD's Lunar: The Silver Star. That's right, before Silver Star Story, Silver Star Story Complete, or Lunar Legend, this fine game came to us, and along with it, Iwadare's fine soundtrack. The soundtrack to this game is a very rare find...you'll probably never get to own it. Because of this, be sure to read the review and check out the audio samples!

Do you know what "OGS" stands for? It's pretty much the same thing as "OST"...it's "Original Game Soundtrack." With that bit of trivia out of the way, I announce to you that our Editor-in-Chief also reviewed the unjustly-overlooked OGS for Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits. Is it good? In a word, yes.

Me? What did Ramza contribute, you ask? Well...you may not be happy about it, but I went a little out of my way to review some vocal singles from Final Fantasy X-2. Yeah that's right, and I'm not ashamed of it either! The Japanese voice actresses for Yuna, Rikku, and Paine, each released some overpriced singles with accompanying DVDs last summer. The results? Well...they're not great, but it's still worth checking out. We even provided some video samples from the DVD, though RealPlayer doesn't do the world's best job in video compression. Please go ahead and check these reviews out as well!

So what's the good news? Well...maybe you've noticed that RPGFan's soundtracks updates have been...lagging. This is partially due to a tradition we have: we post reviews for every seven soundtrack updates: no more, no less. Well, that all's about to change. So expect more updates! They'll be good!

And of course, if you have any soundtrack reviews you'd like to submit, new or old, covered or not, we'd love to take them! Just send an email over to soundtracks@rpgfan.com and we can work something out. You dig? Word.
