E3: Mutable Realms' Wish 05.16.04 - 5:59 AM Mutable Realms showed us a new glimpse of their Ultra-MMORPG, Wish. Supporting hundreds of thousands of players on a single world, unlike other MMORPGs' use of several servers, Wish is taking the Paper and Pen route and touting the 'RPG' portion of MMORPG. Socialization and story are very important to the Wish team, which includes a full-time content team adding new quests and information all the time. Questing is consumable -- there are no repeatable quests in the world. Several people will be issued the same quest, but only one person or group will be able to complete it. In-game story elements may be added for famous players; for instance, the player who defeated the main enemy in Beta 1 will receive a statue in one of the towns. Newspapers will also be issued daily telling what has happened in the world. Another new option is the fact that Bards' singing have actual lyrics; these lyrics are affected by the world, so if some great quester has completed something, a bard will sing about him when doing his buffs. PvP combat is very important to Wish, as well. Aside from the standard PvP arenas, Wish incorporated a 'criminal' system. Say a thief attacks a caravan to steal supplies, but a single member escapes to tell law enforcement. That thief is then bountied for a certain amount of time, free to be slain by anyone with the inclination. The Wish team also strives to include 'Surgical' PvP, which will affect the story in-game. There is no experience in Wish; the system is fully skill-based. When using a spell or weapon, the corresponding skill will go up. Wish also includes multiple monitor support, so you can have a single monitor hold nothing but windows. Control is totally mouse-based, and Wish touts a very complete pathfinding system. Currently in Closed Beta, Wish is slated for a 2004 release.
