Nintendo Announces Paper Mario 2 + Images
04.02.04 - 1:33 AM

Not many RPGs could be referred to as "paper-thin" without it sounding insulting, but that's exactly what Paper Mario 2 (Mario Story 2 in Japan) is. A follow-up to the N64's Paper Mario, the GameCube sequel uses the same paper-like images and characters set against 3D backdrops, to present a unique view on the game's world. Taking the paper concept a step further, one of the announced features involves Mario's ability to fold into a paper airplane to get around.

In development by Intelligent Systems - who was responsible for the first game, as well as the new-to-the-US Fire Emblem on GBA - Paper Mario 2 will again feature more action and player input than typical turn-based systems, as per series tradition.

Along with this announcement, we've added the first 27 screen shots of the game to our gallery.

Paper Mario 2 is planned for release in North America in the fourth quarter of 2004. Look for more on the title at next month's E3 show.
