World of Warcraft Beta Signups Begin

Blizzard Entertainment, creators of StarCraft, the Diablo series, and the Warcraft series, have announced that Beta signups for their upcoming MMORPG, World of Warcraft, began January 28th at 6PM PST. Testers will not be chosen on a first-come first-serve basis and signups will last until February 4th at 6PM PST. This beta test includes the United States, Canada, and Korea. European gamers will have to wait until later this year to beta test.

The system requirements are as follows:

PC:

  • 800 Mhz or higher CPU.
  • 256 Megabytes or more of RAM.
  • Geforce 2 Graphics Card or better.
  • 3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space.
  • DirectX® 9.0 or above.

Mac:

  • 1.0 GHz or higher, G4 or G5 processor.
  • 512 Megabytes RAM or higher. DDR RAM recommended.
  • ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 64 MB VRAM or more.
  • 3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space.
  • Mac OS X 10.3 ("Panther") or better.

World of Warcraft is slated for a late 2004 release on both the PC and Mac platforms.
