Square Enix has announced a character recovery support in Final Fantasy XI, in case a player accidentally deletes one of her or his characters. To retrieve the lost virtual persona, users have to call the Square Enix Information center within three months after the character was deleted. Currently this service is free of charge, but the company might start charging players a fee in the future. Furthermore, this procedure can only be done once per PlayOnline account.
