New GBA SP, Famicom Games Coming to Japan
01.15.04 - 12:04 AM

Nintendo of Japan made a couple of announcements today that should appeal to fans of retro games. Next month, Nintendo will release a new color for the Game Boy Advance SP - white and red, modeled after the Famicom. Unlike the previous GBA SP released for the Famicom's anniversary, this one will not be limited in supply, and will retail for the same price as the standard colors: 12,500 yen (about $119 US).

Along with this model, a host of Famicom games are being released for the console under the "Famicom Mini" label, most noteworthy for our readers being The Legend of Zelda. Zelda, along with nine other games (Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, Excitebike, Pac-Man, Xevious, Mappy, Bomberman and Star Solider if you're curious), will be available for the reduced price of 2,000 yen ($17 US).

Both the new GBA SP and the Famicom Mini series will be available in Japan on February 14th. There's no word yet if any of these will be released outside of the Japan.
