Hisashi Suzuki Resigns

Square Enix has announced that former Square president Hisashi Suzuki has resigned from his position as a member of the company's board of directors as well as chairman of DigiCube. Personal reasons were cited for the resignation. Suzuki has been Square founder and No. 1 shareholder Masashi Miyamoto's point man in steering Square throughout the successful years the company enjoyed during 16-bit and 32-bit eras, when it was developing games for Super Famicom and PlayStation respectively. In 1996, he was the driving force behind the establishment of DigiCube. Following the resignation of CEO Tomoyuki Takechi in 2000, Suzuki acted as Square's president and CEO, trying to weather the storms that two consecutive fiscal years with losses, mainly due to the worse-than-expected performance of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, had brought with them. In December 2001 he handed the reigns to current Square Enix president Youichi Wada. Since Square's merger with Enix on April 1st, Hisashi Suzuki had been serving as a member of the company's board.
