Square Enix President Talks about FFXII, PSP
11.20.03 - 11:32 PM

Following the release of Square Enix's half year results in Japan yesterday, company president Youichi Wada commented on a variety of issues such as the recently unveiled Final Fantasy XII and his company's plans regarding developing software for Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Portable (PSP). Apparently the amount of pre-rendered CG sequences, which have become a series trademark since Final Fantasy VII, will be scaled down in Final Fantasy XII. Wada commented that the CG movies used in previous installments "were not tied to profit. This won't be the case this time", since it was essential for the company to develop games with the mechanics of profit in mind. Regarding Final Fantasy XII's visuals, he mentioned that facial animations will consist of 1,400 polygons.

On the issue of development for PSP, Wada just said that in his own eyes, the new hardware would not be comparable to Nintendo's GameBoy Advance and hence there will be no ports or remakes of GBA software for PSP. However, the president was tight-lipped about Square Enix's plans regarding software support for the PSP, saying he could not comment on the issue.
