Warner Brothers in cooperation with Ubi Soft has announced first details regarding its MMORPG The Matrix Online, based on the immensely popular movie triology by the same name. The title is being co-developed by Monolith Productions and the Wachowski Brothers' EON Entertainment. Taking players to a gigantic urban environment featuring skycrapers, subways and bars, the game's world seem normal at first glance. However, beneath the surface the war between mankind and machines is being fought with incredible intensity. As an operative, the player will be thrown right into that hidden conflict, which takes place where the movie triology ended. The mission-based title will feature the famous wire-fu action of the movies as well as various Matrix elements, which players can trade among each other.

The Matrix Online is currently in development for PC and heading for a 2004 release in the US.
