After an extended hiatus due to a number of factors (including lack of reader reviews, c'mon people!), RPGFan finally brings you a quality soundtrack review update! Each and every one of these reviews is a gem, regardless of the quality of the soundtrack. Enjoy the update, and expect a LOT more in the near future, perhaps before the end of October. Starting off, we have four (count 'em, FOUR) Final Fantasy reviews. An add-on to the original game, Final Fantasy XI Rise of the Zilart sports its own one-disc soundtrack filled to the brim with new music. Completely composed by Naoshi Mizuta, it's a bit of an odd-man-out in the FF world. If you haven't heard this one, you should probably check it out for your own FF-savvy-hood.
We have reviews of the original soundtrack and the arranged soundtrack for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance coming to you; a shining star or a disappointment? It depends on which disc you're listening to and what tastes you have...but generally, this game had its ups and downs with music. I'd like to thank Richard Vardaro for submitting a review for the OST.
Rounding off the FF stuff, oldschool reader-reviewer Son of Saturn brings us his take on the domestically-produced "The Best of Final Fantasy 1994 - 1999: A Musical Tribute". Regarded by many as a flop, SoS agrees wholeheartedly. Read the review to remember exactly why this soundtrack is considered terrible.
The other three soundtracks are Genso Suikogaiden Vol. 2: Last Duel at Crystal Valley OST by Damian Thomas (a.k.a. SenseiPhoenix), .hack//Game Music Perfect Collection by yours truly, and Front Mission Alternative by Dragon God, whom I owe much thanks to for always being willing to chip in, even though he runs his own site's soundtrack reviews (rpgclassics.com).
