In a recent interview, composer Yasunori Mitsuda commented about his involvement in a possible third incarnation of the Chrono series. While he mentioned he didn't know whether a new Chrono title would actually be developed by Square Enix, Mitsuda said he would love to work on a sequel to Chrono Cross. He composed both the soundtracks for the 1995 Super Famicom smash hit Chrono Trigger and its 1999 PlayStation sequel Chrono Cross for Square.

For reference, Square Enix has registered the trademarks Chrono Brake in Japan and Chrono Break in the US last year. While those trademarks have given rise to a lot of speculation, Square Enix has yet to comment on the possibility of a new Chrono title.
