Nintendo Strategy Meeting Report 08.07.03 - 4:58 PM At a strategy meeting held today in Japan, Nintendo announced a couple of new titles including a new Zelda and yet-to-be announced mysterious title. The company didn't provide any details, except saying the latter will be announced next spring, while the new Zelda title is set for a release sometime in 2004. Echoing previous comments, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mentioned that the industry's large-scale production business model based on expansion has reached its limits. Sometime this year his company will introduce an internet platform called Club Nintendo allowing fans to collect points for each Nintendo product they purchase. After accumulating a certain amount of points, costumers will get special preview DVDs or controllers which are not for sale, as presents. Thereby Nintendo wants to strengthen its marketing. In other Nintendo-related news, HAL Laboratories' Masahiro Sakurai resigned from the company yesterday. Sakurai is the father of Kirby and director of the Super Smash Brothers games. |
