E3: RPGFan and Bethesda
05.14.03 - 6:25 PM

RPGFan had a chance to speak with Bethesda about their upcoming releases for both the PC and Xbox. All the titles shown were already announced, but this is the first time that Pirates of the Caribbean was shown under its current name, and not Sea Dogs 2. Morrowind's new PC expansion, Bloodmoon and the Xbox Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition were both shown behind closed doors.

Pirates' launch is meant to coincide with the release of the movie of the same name. The story is set in the same world, but before the events of the movie, allowing the game to be free-flow. Players will find themselves sailing the seas in a world reminiscent of Morrowind. The game is so open ended that it is possible for a character simply to be a trader and sell his wares. A player may also become a pirate and loot and plunder to their heart's delight.

Bethesda's other titles are very similar. Bloodmoon is being released for the PC and will be included in the Xbox Game of the Year. New additions in Bloodmoon are, most notably, the ability to become a lycanthrope; a werewolf. A player must hunt at night for blood or will lose health. The other major addition is that of a colony if one joines the East Empire Company. Similar to the Stronghold in Morrowind, the colony grows as you tell it to. One will not be able to contract both vampirism and lycanthropy at the same time. Additions to the Xbox version, aside from both expansions, are the enemy health bar found in the PC version of the game, but the Xbox version will not include map notes or journal sorting. Xbox Live support for downloadable missions is not expected.
