05.14.03 - 3:32 PM

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced plans to publish the PlayStation 2 version of Square Enix's MMORPG Final Fantasy XI in the US early next year. Along with the game, SCEA will finally release an internal 40GB PlayStation 2 harddisk drive. SCEA will create an environment allowing American PS2 users to play the game just like their Japanese counterparts, utilizing both the PS2's harddisk and an ethernet adaptor. Just like in Japan, US PS2 and PC users will share the same Final Fantasy XI servers. The US version will also contain the recently released expansion, Vision of Jiraat.

The PC version will be published by Square Enix USA and support both nVIDIA's GeForce and ATI's Radeon 9000 series GPUs. The North American PC version of Final Fantasy XI will be available in late 2003. In order to provide in-game and costumer support for the game's two versions, Square Enix USA will be teaming up with San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment.
