New Info On Namco RPGs

Namco has released new info on two of its upcoming RPGs: Tales of Destiny 2, the most recent PlayStation 2 incarnation of the company's popular RPG series, and Project Venus, the sequel to Namco's first PlayStation 2 RPG, Seven.

Tales of Destiny 2 will take place 18 years after the events of the original game. The protagonist is no other than Kyle Dunamis, son of Stahn and Rutee from the first game. Kyle hates boredom above everything and also seeks excitment. After Liala, the game's mysterious heroine, all of a sudden appears in front of him and afterwards joins him on his journey for no particular reason, he and the player should get plenty of excitement. Unlike like other RPG series, like Suikoden or Star Ocean, which have gone 3D upon surfacing on the PS2, Tales of Destiny 2 will remain in 2D with the entire field map, except the world map being hand-drawn. Battles will also be fought in 2D, using the Linear Motion Battle System. Tales of Destiny 2 is currently set for a December 2002 release.

While upon announcing Project Venus, only online battles were mentioned to be included in the game; no details were mentioned. Thanks to the recent update of the game's official website, we now know that real- time battles, download battles and a ranking system are among other interesting features that might be implemented in the final product.

While the game's world will be based on themes like the middle ages and swords and magic, Project Venus's world won't fit so easily in any time or place.

Project Venus has yet to receive a release date.
