Fallout & Freedom Force Coming to Mac OS X

While the PC world has seen the release of Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, the Mac has thus far only received the first game. Originally released in 1997 for the 'classic' Mac OS (as in, pre-OS X), the game made it to version 1.1. The new version, made to run on OS X, is based on Fallout 1.2, which is, you know, better. Version 1.2 also never made it to the Mac before now. Also, since it's now made for Apple's new OS, the game will be more stable, and run better. The game will be released under MacPlay's Value Series, retailing for $19.99.

For those of you wondering about Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics, there are rumors about them coming, just no confirmation of who's doing them, or when.

The port is being handled by Mac OS X developer The Omni Group, which has brought other games to the platform such as Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Oni, and Quake III Arena.

In addition to Fallout, the company is also behind the port of Freedom Force, the 'tactical superhero RPG' or something. Freedom Force, says the company, is the first Mac title based on the NetImmerse graphics engine, which they hope will 'pave the way for future games'.

If these two RPGs aren't enough, they also are working on Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, Incoming, and an unannounced title, all to be published by MacPlay.

While no specific release plans were specified, MacPlay has said they plan to release the games during the summer.
