Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2 Unveiled

As announced yesterday, Namco has unveiled today their upcoming GBA RPG Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2. The game is a sequel to the GBC RPG Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon, which never made it outside Japan.

The story takes place in the world of Yggdras, dominated by the giant World Tree, and connecting with the worlds of the previous Tales games, as the title suggests. The two main characters, Caro and Furio, have failed their adulthood ceremony because a required flower did not bloom, and have therefore been sentenced to be treated like children forever. One day though, a Goddess appears to them and reveals the failure of the ceremony is related to the weakening of the World Tree, and that the world is in danger.

Like its predecessor, Narikiri Dungeon 2 will focus on class changes, or more exactly costume changes. The game will feature over 150 costumes, and the characters' stats and appearance will of course evolve depending on what they're wearing - In fact, Namco refers to the game as a "cosplay RPG". Equipments and items such as food can also be melted with the costumes change their properties.

Some characters from the previous games, such as Mint from Tales of Phantasia, will make appearances. Some seiyuu have been announced for the two main characters, meaning the game should have voice acting to some extent. Also, the game will once again feature the series' usual battle system, the Linear Motion Battle system.

Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2 is currently scheduled for an October release in Japan, and a western release, though possible, seems rather unlikely at the time. You can check out 16 screen shots of the game, and some official artwork.
