E3 - Interplay's Product Lineup RPGFan got a look at the newest RPGs from Interplay today at their booth in Concourse Hall. The first game demonstrated was Lionheart, the recently announced PC RPG. The game uses a modified version of the Fallout S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system, and appears to be a heavily story-oriented RPG. Lionheart will also use the unique "Party Mojo" system to scale the game's content based upon the strength and number of characters in the party, ensuring adequate challenge and treasure for any player. Lionheart also uses back-buffered, anti-aliased 3D models for the characters and monsters in the game that were practically indistinguishable from 2D sprites. The game's editor was also demonstrated, though it is unsure at this time whether it will be released to the public. Icewind Dale 2 was also demonstrated at the show. The game uses the updated 3rd Edition D&D ruleset, featuring a wide variety of race, sub-race, and class choices (including the ever popular Drow elves). While still a hack-and-slash game at heart, the developers are trying to make the game more puzzle and dialogue oriented, with possible repercussions for your party's actions. Icewind Dale 2 is on track for a summer release. Finally, the XBox port of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was playable on the show floor. The game is virtually identical to the Playstation 2 version, with some minor balance tweaks and graphical upgrades. We also asked about any games planned for the future, including the possibility of Fallout and Planescape: Torment sequels. No specific titles were mentioned, but it was mentioned that Interplay has some popular franchises they're very fond of and would like to continue. RPGFan will have media from Interplay's E3 lineup as the show progresses. |
