E3 - Mistmare Information One of the many titles on the show floor was Arxel Tribe's upcoming PC RPG, Mistmare. The game, running on a modified version of the Lithtech engine, is set in an alternate universe. In the Middle Ages, the Church studied magic and created magical systems of communication. Their research caused side effects, however, causing great amounts of fog and monsters to sweep across the landscape. In the world of Mistmare, the Industrial Revolution never occured, and the game is set in present-day times (1996). The game's story actually progresses in real-time, with the player having only limited amounts of time to progress from town to town and complete quests. This sense of urgency will likely impact the way the player progresses through the game, as the amount of time for resting and training will be in limited supply. The player controls a monk named Isador, searching for a fellow monk who was looking for a way to stop the everpresent fog. Mistmare is currently on track for an October release in Europe, with a release in the United States shortly after. No US distributor has been announced yet. Stay tuned to RPGFan for media from Mistmare. |
