Rumours had surfaced last month about a possible European release of the game, although it was unconfirmed whether it would contain all three games, or only two like its US counterpart. The decision to release the Anthology almost three years after the US/Japan releases was rather unexpected considering the Super Nintendo games never came out in Europe in the first place, where FFVII was the first Final Fantasy ever released.

This week, we have finally received an official statement on the matter. The bad news is, the rumoured anthology has been reduced to... one game, since only Final Fantasy VI is currently scheduled for European release. Final Fantasy VI, which many fans consider the best in the series, will be released on March 1st 2002 for the low price of 14.99€ or £8.99 (about $13); it will, as previously rumoured, include a playable demo of Final Fantasy X (which is being released in May in Europe), containing "two playable levels". FFVI is very likely to be released only in English.

While European FF fans can rejoice they're finally getting FFVI (those who didn't already get the US or Japanese versions, that is), some won't help but think this is a somewhat half-hearted job from Square Europe, especially considering English versions of all three games already exist. Others will just enjoy the classic for a mere 15€!
