In an interview with Mainichi Interactive, Yuji Horii commented on the next installment in the Dragon Quest series and the future of Enix's crown jewel.
Dragon Quest VIII is currently in development, but there is as of yet no release date or planned platform. An announcement is expected in the spring, but Horii seemed to be of the mind that the next Dragon Quest is at least another 2-3 years from now. In addition, the director touched briefly on Enix's interest and research into online gaming, though stated that the connection issue has so far been a hindrance. He did seem positive, however, that eventually online gaming will grow with new developments and more demand.
