Square's Sales Projections Square announced its projections for PlayOnline as well as current sales figures for Final Fantasy X. The company has shipped 2.48 million copies of its PlayStation 2 blockbuster title in Japan since the game's July 19th release. Final Fantasy II and Blue Wing Blitz for the WonderSwan Color sold 330,000 and 20,000 copies respectively. In the meantime, Final Fantasy Chronicles did well on the other side of Pacific, as Square EA LLC sold 270,000 copies of the compilation. Square expects to ship a total of 2.4 million copies of Final Fantasy X to North America and 380,000 to Europe. It was again confirmed that FFX will indeed only be available in limited quantities on December 26th. Finally, the company also mentioned a precise figure concerning the monthly fees for its PlayOnline service, to be launched in Japan by March 2002. The membership fee will cost $10 USD monthly. In order for PlayOnline to break even, Square needs 200,000 annual suscriptions; however, it will already ship an initial 400,000 PlayOnline packages at launch and projects 250,000 suscriptions for the first year. The number of suscribers is expected to reach more than 400,000 by the end of the second year. |
