As revealed a few days ago, the Lunar series is fated to endure another remake before a new (and yet unconfirmed) installment can occur. Lunar: Legend is a Game Boy Advance remake of the 1992 Mega CD classic Lunar: The Silver Star (or should we say, a remake of the Saturn/PS remakes). As announced, the graphics will be enhanced and the story will be entirely reworked and reorganized. Media Ring is listed as the game's developer/publisher, so it looks like Kadokawa, who had a very important part in the Saturn/PS remakes, won't participate this time.
If you're wondering what the game looks like, we have 22 screen shots straight from last week's issue of Famitsuu, some artwork and an assorted wallpaper. The screen shots show bigger character portraits, larger character sprites (with seemingly more animation frames) to fit the GBA's screen better, and a first look at the GBA equivalents of the the game's animated cutscenes. Lunar: Legend also introduces a new side view in certain backgrounds (such as Luna's song place and Dyne's grave) which used to be in over view. Rouyce and Faithia, who only appeared in the Sat/PS versions, will be returning in this version as well.
Famitsuu also briefly introduces Lunar 2: Eternal Blue in the same article, which might where the rumours about a possible GBA remake originated from. However, said port has not been announced nor hinted at so far.
Lunar: Legend should be released in February 2002 in Japan, and given the series' popularity in America, a stateside release is lilekly, though it may not come from Working Designs. For some reason, Famitsuu lists the game's title as "Lunar: Legend of the Silver Star", although the logo simply says "Lunar: Legend". Either way, we'll be sure to keep you informed on the game's evolution!
