E3: May 18th, Day Two Hello faithful readers! Rudo here to give you an account of our Day 2 at E3. If you didn't like the Day 1 update, then don't read below because you'll be disapointed. This update does not include a whole lot of RPG news, it is instead intended to give you all a glimpse of what it's like to be at E3 in the shoes of an RPGFan editor. Hope you enjoy it! Day 2 began with a wake-up call at 7:00am. After getting ready, I took a peak in the other rooms to see if everybody was ready to go. Needless to say, as one would expect after reading Day 1's update, a certain female editor was not exactly at 100% and looked like she was run over by a train with bruises on her legs and a glazed look in her eyes. After all that, Tortolia, Sensei Phoenix and I left for the E3 show for a 9:00am appointment with Interplay. We got a lot of info out of the appointment and came away impressed with Black Isle's and Bioware's latest offerings. For more details on that, look at our Interplay update posted yesterday and look for our upcoming previews of these RPGs in the near future. After that, we all met at the Media Center where we made a few updates and then we went our separate ways on the E3 show floor. Sensei Phoenix and Feena spent quite a bit of time checking out Korean, Taiwanese, French, German, etc.. companies and came away with quite a few goodies. They also had the opportunity to meet with a few "interesting" people along the way. In the meantime, the rest of us stuffed our face with food behind Sony's booth and prepared questions for some interviews we still had left. After that, the rest of the day was pretty much spent walking around the show floor and watching our PR chick (Sumi) do her thing and get contacts and appointments with a few companies and charming her way in front of long lines to see stuff behind closed doors. It's amazing what a little short skirt and plunging neckline can do. :P After watching the Square presentation at their booth and being amazed by the movie-like CG in the Final Fantasy movie (and being nauseated by the Disney/Square RPG), we headed back to the media center where we decided to call it a day. However, before we left, the entire RPGFan staff ambushed and assaulted Brian Glick from the GIA. Our plan for world domination is coming along according to plan... Tomorrow, Andrew Vestal and Mike Tidwell better watch their back! In all seriousness (and to avoid a lawsuit), we had a nice conversation with him and he's a great guy. Good luck with your studies buddy! After heading back to the hotel, we once again played videogames for most of the night. Soul Calibur, Virtua Tennis and Dead or Alive 2 were the games of the night. After arguing for an hour on what to order for dinner, we just decided to leave the hotel and walk around until we found something... needless to say, L.A sucks and almost everything was closed so we walked forever and eventually ate in a shopping center. Back in the hotel, we watched a tape of last year's E3 and I was able to prove to everybody that there WERE more booth babes last year :). We also learned that THE Chrono just LOVES those blue fuzzy aliens from Space Channel 5. At about 1:00am, we went down to Chrono and Schala's room and fired up Dance Dance Revolution again. Obviously, I fell asleep like a little baby while they were playing and they took this opportunity to do weird things to me and take pictures. After everybody was exhausted from jumping around on a mat for 2 hours, we put in Vib Ribbon and proceeded to suck at playing it. All of us except for Tortolia who immediately became an expert and was soon a super crack rabbit. We finally went to bed at around 2:30am. In a big change of pace, Sumi ditched us and went to party with a bunch of drunk editors from other websites and magazines. She was also fortunate enough to meet her idol, Gary Coleman! We have no idea what time Sumi came back to the hotel... actually, we're not sure she even came back as we haven't found her yet! Expect her picture to show on a milk carton near you! |
