Even though Paper Mario (Mario Story in Japan) is using a unique combination 3D backgrounds and 2D characters, many aspects of this game will be similar to those used in Super Mario RPG.

Timed Attacks will return, but instead of just a single timed button press, players will have to move the control stick and press the A button at a certain point during attacks in order to inflict a larger amount of damage. This is a good indication that the game will maintain the action-oriented gameplay found in the original.

The confirmed cast of characters is Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Toad, but a complete list has not been revealed yet. Will characters like Geno, the lovable Mallow, or even the great Frogfucius return in the second adventure? It's not known for sure, but you can bet Nintendo will attempt to mix old favorites in with new faces.

Today, we have 20 new screen shots which are still in Japanese, but they give you a taste of the gameplay elemtents you can expect in Paper Mario.
