Friday NewsHironobu Sakaguchi, has been honored with a Hall of Fame award from The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences to honor his contributions to the world of interactive entertainment and information. The award will be presented during the Academy's third annual Interactive Achievement Awards in Los Angeles on May 11, during E3. Sakaguchi-san is well known as the creator and senior producer of the Final Fantasy series.Square will be releasing the Final Fantasy Art Edition. These are trading cards featuring art work from various Final Fantasy games. The first edition will feature chocobos, Sephiroth, and Vincent. The second will contain characters from Final Fantasy II, V, and VIII. The third and final edition will have cards from Final Fantasy III, VI, and IX. The first set will be available on April 14th. Maybe this could spell an end to the whole 'Catch 'Em All' Craze. In yet more Square news, the company plans on rereleasing Saga Frontier, Saga Frontier 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Brave Fencer Musashiden this year as the "Millennium Collection" in Japan. Each will retail at 3,800 yen ($36.08 in U.S. dollars). The collection will release on June 29 in Japan. It appears as if the Electronics Boutique-Funcoland merger wasn't a sure thing. Barnes & Noble, parent company of Babbage's, Software Etc., and GameStop, has presented a counter bid for Funco Inc. They are offering $135 million, 23% more than what Electronics Boutique was offering. Funco said its board will meet to discuss this latest proposal. 3D Palette, excited over rumours of Fallout 3, have decided to hold a character design contest based on the setting and theme of Fallout. Entrants have to design a character 'living in a post-apocalyptic world'. The winners will win a GeForce, Wacom Graphire, and a game; basically gear with such funked-out names that they should come in real handy granted that we have an apocalypse.
