Ultima IX Ships!

Ultima IX: Ascension is the highly touted and even more anticipated final journey of the Avatar. While the 3-D engine of the game may turn off some purists, this Ultima hopes to show the world of Britannia as it never has before. Below is a quote from Richard Garriott of Origin on what he feels this game will accomplish, as well as general advice on how to go through the game.

"We want people to feel complete immersion when they play Ultima IX. From the music to the sound effects, from the people you meet to the adventures you encounter, this Ultima puts you in a virtual world like you've never seen before."

"The Virtues have always separated the Ultima series from other games in our industry. It gives players something to ponder and forces them to make choices that reflect their true personality, just as in real life. Uphold the virtues and you'll save Britannia. Ignore them and you'll suffer the consequences."

Ultima IX: Ascension should be at your local retailer now.

Also some small tidbits on Baldur's Gate II. Up until now it has been speculated that this game would be wall to wall 3-D. But according to Richard Aihoshi of the Vault Network, Baldur's Gate II is predominantly a prerendered 2-D game.

The afformentioned OpenGL support will in actuality be used for the special effects, such as I assume, spell casting. Whatever the case, this doesn't change the fact that Baldur's Gate II will probably still be a kick ass game.
